Join Friends’ volunteer docent for this strenuous, interpretive hike. The trail will climb to the scenic overlook of the San Jacinto Mountain and expansive views of the Coachella Valley and city of La Quinta. This partial hike up the Bear Creek Oasis trail will introduce you to it.
Our hike will be about 8 miles round trip (out and back). This trail begins with about 2 miles through a sandy wash and then from the start of the trailhead at the foot of the mountain we will climb about 2 more miles along Bear Creek Canyon ridge with switchbacks and rocky pathways overlooking steep canyon walls to a captivating and expansive look at the Coachella Valley and San Jacinto Mountain peak. We will discuss the water systems, plant and animal conservation, geology and how the Cahuilla people adapted and survived in this climate.
Bring 2 liters of water, snacks, wear closed-toed shoes, a sun hat and sunscreen. Sorry, no dogs allowed on this trail.
RSVP is required. Check-in begins 15 minutes prior to start time. Ticket reservations begin 14 days prior to the event.
A suggested non-refundable donation of $5.00 per person is appreciated and encouraged to support our volunteer programs.
